25G BiDi SFP28 10km Optical Transceiver: Efficient Fiber Resource Savings

Posted on Jan-20-2026

C-LIGHT 25G BiDi SFP28 10km optical transceiver enables stable transmission over distances of up to 10 kilometers on single-mode fiber while supporting high-speed data rates from 24.3G to 26.5 Gb/s.

These performance specifications make it a highly regarded fronthaul solution in current 5G network construction. Especially in the initial stages of base station deployment where direct fiber connection is predominant, its single-fiber bidirectional (BiDi) technology can effectively save 50% of fiber resources, reducing network deployment costs.

01 Core Product Features

The C-LIGHT 25G BiDi SFP28 transceiver utilizes a hot-pluggable SFP28 form factor and supports full-duplex transceiver integration. The module incorporates an integrated CWDM DFB laser and a high-sensitivity PIN photodetector.

It offers two wavelength combination options: 1270nm Tx / 1330nm Rx or 1330nm Tx / 1270nm Rx.

Both the receiver and transmitter channels feature built-in CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) circuits. With CDR enabled, the module supports bidirectional data transmission from 24.3G to 26.5 Gb/s. In CDR bypass mode, it also supports data rates from 9.95G to 10.31 Gb/s.

03 Detailed Technical Specifications

Regarding power supply, the module employs a single 3.3V power source, with an operating current range of 220mA to 450mA and a maximum power consumption of less than 1.2W, demonstrating excellent energy efficiency.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is a highlighted feature of this module. It provides full digital diagnostic capabilities compliant with the SFF-8472 standard via a 2-wire serial bus, allowing users to monitor the module's operating status in real-time.

The module supports a wide operating temperature range. The commercial-grade version operates stably from 0°C to 70°C, while the industrial-grade version functions reliably in extreme conditions from -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for outdoor and harsh environment deployments.

04 Industry Application Scenarios

In 5G network construction, fronthaul optical modules are comprehensively upgrading from 10G to 25G. The C-LIGHT 25G BiDi SFP28 10km transceiver is particularly suitable for scenarios with longer distances or higher link loss between 5G base stations and access equipment rooms.

The module is also widely applicable in 25GBASE-LR and 10GBASE-LR Ethernet environments and is compatible with both CPRI and eCPRI wireless interface standards. With an estimated construction of 600,000 to 800,000 new 5G base stations, the market demand for 25G fronthaul optical modules is projected to reach 7.2 to 9.6 million units.

This single-fiber bidirectional optical module not only provides a smooth upgrade path for existing networks but also reduces the complexity and cost of fiber cabling for new network deployments. Its advantage in saving fiber resources is especially evident in scenarios with limited fiber availability or restricted cabling space.

05 Market Competitive Advantages

Compared to other transmission solutions, the C-LIGHT 25G BiDi SFP28 10km module demonstrates competitive strengths across multiple dimensions. It complies with industry standards such as IEEE 802.3cc, SFF-8402, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472, ensuring compatibility with mainstream network equipment.

The module design fully considers practical deployment needs. Its simplex LC interface simplifies the connection process, while the availability of both commercial-grade and industrial-grade temperature versions meets deployment requirements in diverse environments.

As the price of 25G network equipment becomes increasingly affordable, 25G network interface cards (NICs) have become the preferred choice for many users upgrading their networks. These cards are typically backward compatible with 10G/1G networks, offering users a flexible upgrade path.

With a maximum power consumption of less than 1.2W, this module significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional dual-fiber solutions. In large-scale data center or base station deployments, this advantage translates into considerable operational cost savings.

For enterprise users seeking network upgrades, this module offers a complete range of temperature options from commercial to industrial grade. The yellow and blue identifiers on the bail latch clearly distinguish between the 1270nm/1330nm and 1330nm/1270nm wavelength combinations.

Supporting transmission distances of up to 10 km and maintaining power consumption below 1.2W, this product has become a key component for connecting 25G Ethernet and facilitating future network upgrades in numerous data center and telecommunications equipment room applications.
